We're joined by the inspiring Aditi Mayer—a sustainable fashion activist, content creator, photojournalist, and writer based in LA—for the latest in our monthly capsule series.
Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Aditi Mayer, and I am a sustainable fashion activist + content creator, photojournalist, and writer, whose work explores the intersections between style, sustainability, and social justice.
Where are you from?
Born and raised in California, first generation Indian with my parents hailing from Punjab.
What made you come to L.A.?
I’m a born and bred Southern California girl, and I really appreciate how LA balances a culture of creativity while also centering wellness. All of our Californian landscapes (from the ocean, the mountains, to the desert) makes this an especially special place to call home as someone who always craves proximity to the outdoors.

Can you tell us more about your day-to-day life?
My days span researching, writing, or shooting content at home or a specific site (I spent most of last year in India documenting farmers and artisans in relation to fashion), to community building with other folks in the environmental justice space. This year, I’m especially conscious of making sure I embed movement into my days, whether it’s taking two walks a day with my dog at the least, or catching up with a friend over a hike.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about using fashion as a vehicle to make conversations about climate justice and culture more accessible.
What has been your personal experience with education?
Formally, I double majored in Literary Journalism and International Studies, so my academic background balanced understanding structural and systemic issues, but through the lens of personal narratives. Understanding the macro through the micro, you can say.
With that said, I’m also a child of the internet. I’ve seen the power of social platforms in informing my own politics and expanding my knowledge base, and I’m very lucky to have had the tool the social media to help me carve out my own corner of the Internet dedicated to fashion and sustainability, and grow a community in the process.

What does education mean to you?
Education is accessibility; education is power and agency–when we have the means to understand the systems that surround us, we can then take steps to reimagine and rebuild more just systems for all.
What is one item in your wardrobe that you can't live without?
I’m a sucker for something like the basic black long sleeve, but remixed with a more captivating silhouette. That’s why Marcella’s interesting use of cutouts, sheerness, and layers are so aligned with my style.
How would you describe your personal style?
As a visual storyteller, I’ve always been drawn to clothing that has a strong silhouette—whether that’s powerful shoulders or an interesting neckline, or a flowy dress that dances in the wind. I’m a big lover of natural textiles as well. Lastly, I love injecting pieces that honor my culture—whether it’s an embroidered pullover or gold bangles, intentional elements of adornment go a long way.
How do you put your personal 'stamp' on a winter outfit?
Haha—this is an interesting question as a West Coaster. I’d say as a Californian, we don’t usually have the chance to pull out “winter wardrobes” in the traditional sense, but I love to pull out my favorite hats and beanies during this time.
What is your favorite piece from your Marcella capsule?
I’d say the Soho Top! It features a high neckline yet showcases a bit of collarbone, and just makes any simple outfit more elevated.

What advice would you have for people looking to hone their personal style?
I’m a big proponent of the “wardrobe audit.” Take a look at your wardrobe to understand what you gravitate towards the most—is there a particular color, silhouette, material that you find yourself wearing time and time again? Identifying these persona trends is a great way to mitigate other general trends that are fleeting and lead to mindless, impulse purchases.
