Fabric selection with care and intention at Marcella. Why choose Oeko-Tex fabrics?

“Never polyester!” I can still hear my grandmother say to me as a child. She was a famous Bulgarian designer and meticulously choosing fabrics for her clients was one of her passions. She sourced many of them from Paris and her favorites were silk, cotton and linen. I still hear these words every day.

We now aim to select our fabrics with the same intention, the same care for sustainability and the health impact our garments have on you.

Today, I’d like to share more about our new Oeko Tex-certified poplin cotton fabric. We searched for the right thickness, softness and opaque features for a long, long time. After many trips to Première Vision Paris and New York, we finally found it! It’s not only beautiful and incredibly durable (no pilling for an infinite number of washes), but also not harmful to you or the environment.

So what’s the Oeko-Tex certification and why we care?

Oeko-Tex Standard 100 has to do with how the raw materials are processed when manufacturing the fabric. To attain Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, the fabric has been tested and certified to be free from harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to be harmful to human health and the environment.
The poplin cotton has literally unleashed our imagination. It is a seasonless, breathable material that can be worn during both summer and winter, once again helping us towards building the perfect capsule, minimalist wardrobe.

And the colors it comes in? In addition to our staple black and off white, we chose tan beige and a beautiful sapphire blue. This color conjures the strong serenity of bare earth. It is a color that grounds any look while sapphire blue is the color of an ocean that reflects clear skies, making us feel hopeful and freed.

Our minimalist women’s clothing is truly lovingly made. It is not just about strong craftsmanship and statement silhouettes. The care starts with choosing the raw elements of the garment: meticulous fabric and color selection processes that lovingly consider your health and comfort-- as well as Mother Earth herself. Luxuriate in the sense of feeling cared for without sacrificing an ounce of your unique minimalist edge with us at Marcella.

Love,
Siyana H.
